Oz Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum Review

Today I have a review, which I haven't done in quite a while. This product was sent to me for review, but be assured my opinion will be completely honest.

This is the OZ Naturals Hyaluronic Acid Serum.* When I first heard the company name, OZ Naturals, I assumed it was Australian. I was a little shocked that it's an American company, but that just meant that the serum took a little longer to get to me. I ordered it on Amazon, and it took about 10 days to reach me in New Zealand. It was ridiculously packaged, with about 3 layers of boxes for a tiny bottle, but at least that means it didn't break!

Each bottle is 30ml, and this bottle has lasted me at least 6 weeks, and will probably (I'm estimating here) last for 9-10 weeks overall. I'm using it once per day, as a part of my nightly skincare routine.

This product claims to do the following:

• plump and hydrate dry, dull skin
• assist in balancing moisture levels
• speed up skin-cell turnover, keeping new and healthy skin on the surface 
• diminish surface lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen
• naturally lifts and firms sagging skin

A full list of ingredients (because those are important to note): Organic Aloe, Botanical Hyaluronic Acid, Witch Hazel, Kosher Vegetable Glycerin, MSM, Hydroxyethyl, Cellulose, Carrageenan Gum, Organic Jojoba Oil, Wildcrafted Green Tea, Geranium Essential Oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin. (Please note these are sourced from the box, and the website).

Oz Naturals is  natural and cruelty-free which does not contain alcohol, parabens or sulfates.

The serum is a cloudy colour, and the consistency of water. The dropper itself is very easy to use, and a good way of dispensing the serum. It picks it up easily, and one dropper-full is just a little bit more than what you need for one use.

The serum comes out easily, and spreads very easily. I've been using my fingers, but you could use a cotton pad if you wanted to.

The serum sinks into the skin very easily and quickly. Honestly, I've not used another serum or essence that sinks in as well as this one does. After about 5 minutes it has completely absorbed, and your face is dry, soft and very silky to the touch. 

 

I took a photo before I started using the serum (on the left) and the second photo on the right is after 6 weeks of use. The lighting is different, and completely ignore the differences in my eyes (allergies), but I think there is a bit of a difference. My forehead is smoother, and my cheeks look to be nicer too. My chin is a hormonal acne zone, so it can be discounted too. Overall, I think that while there isn't a major difference, there is  a slight one. I have a fairly extensive skincare routine already, but for someone who is just starting out their results will probably be more drastic.

 

In conclusion, I can recommend this serum to those looking for extra hydration in their skincare routine. It's fantatsic on it's own, but also helps other moisturisers to absorb more fully. It has a reasonable pricepoint, and will last at least 2 months, if not 3 months with daily usage. It's not the best serum I've ever used, but it isn't ineffective and I have enjoyed using it.

Mask Genie - September Pouch

If you follow my Facebook page, I'm sure you've figured out I'm obsessed with sheet masks by this stage. I love being able to try new ones, especially since you can't get most of these in New Zealand. Being able to get a 10 pack of new and exciting masks per month makes me excessively happy, although my stash just keeps growing bigger.

Mask Genie is a mask subscription run by Genie, a blogger from Genie's Favourite Products. It's a small business (one-woman if I recall correctly), and she lives in Hong Kong. This means she has access to a huge variety of Asian masks (Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese, and more). Mask Genie is a monthly subscription, 10 masks for $22USD or 5 masks for $12USD, both including international shipping (although the price may have gone up recently because of increased shipping costs).

September's arrived in September, I'm just late putting this unpouching up. Genie now has a little business card that says on the back which month it is (which is awesome as international shipping isn't always particularly great). Let's see what's in the pouch this month.

Etude House Hyaluronic Acid

I've used this one before, and it's a decent mask. It isn't the highest quality, and is dirt cheap, but it's a good mask. It has lots of essence and is great for getting extra moisture into your skincare routine. 

Simply Anti Aging Program - Aqua Moisture Mask

Hyaluronic acid is the first ingredient listed on this pack, and that makes me very happy! It's one I've never heard of or seen before, and is Taiwanese? Should be interesting to try out! 

My Scheming Crystal Whitening Brightening Eye Mask

This is an eye mask, which I love using. I've heard good things about the My Scheming brand and I'm more than happy to have this to try out. 

Dia Force Ruby Hydro Ampoule Gel Mask

This was the spoiler for this pouch, and I love hydrogel masks! They adhere to your face a little better somehow, so are a lot easier to wear. They tend to be more expensive too, so this is the 'big-ticket' item for this box. According to Genie this mask is PINK, which is a really neat point of difference.

Dr Morita Revitalising Essence Facial Mask

Another Taiwanese mask - yay! This claims to be for 'everlasting youth and beauty' so I'm looking forward to that. Otherwise I have no idea about what this mask is for, or what it will do. It's like a lucky dip mask!

Holika Holika Juicy Mask Sheet Blueberry

This looks like an exciting mask! Berries are supposed to be great for your skin, and I'm really excited to try out a Holika Holika mask. I've been drooling over this one for quite awhile, so I'm very keen to give it a go.

Mediental Acai-Berry 

Another berry mask, and from a brand I've never heard of. This is the sort of thing I love about MaskGenie; I can try out different masks that I would never know about otherwise. I haven't tried acai berry before, so will be interested to see what it does.

Nature Republic Skin Smoothing Blackhead Removing Nose Patch

These are the staples of any skincare routine, and are gross yet addictive. It's so satisfying to see the gunk pulled out of your nose by one of these strips! I try not to do them too often myself as I'm terrified of making my nose pores larger, but my partner likes doing these so he can have this one. 

 Brand unknown - Platinum Essence Facial Mask

This is another Taiwanese brand, so it's a good way to branch out from the Korean masks I'm always using. It looks interesting and sounds moisturising.

Mask Pack Royal Oriental Medicine + Thermal Water

Hmmm, I don't know about this one. Oriental medicine is a neat concept (although I openly admit I don't know much about it) but thermal water? Is it really any different to normal water? There is no English on this mask (not necessarily a bad thing) but I don't know what I'm in for. It doesn't feel like there's a lot of essence ...  

There you have it, a very late unboxing of the September pouch. I really like the lucky dip aspect of these. I also love being able to try out different masks from Asia that I don't have easy access to in New Zealand. Like those Taiwanese masks, I'm pretty sure they would require a massive hunt if they are even in the country!

Butterfly Party Soap Shower and Body Box October 2015

This is the last subscription box from Butterfly Party Soap for awhile, although hopefully she will be back up and running sometime in early 2016. I must say I'm looking forward to that, mostly because it will be shipping from New Zealand then, and the shipping won't be so horrendous for me. Yay!

I received this last month (in a combined package with the August and September boxes) but have had so many other boxes coming in that I've waited awhile to put up my unboxing.

Luxury Soap - Hawaiian Ginger

This soap smells wonderful! I'm a sucker for ginger scents, so I might keep this one for myself. I don't usually use bars of soap, and my SO is usually the one to benefit from this, but I might hang on to this one.

Bath and Shower Whip - Twilight

I love the shower whip, it's my favourite product in these boxes. I've made an order that consists of only this shower whip. The scent is a bit strange, it smells like generic soap with a hint of something else (yeah, yeah, I'm awful at describing scents). It has glitter in it, a subtle reference to silly newfangled vampires?

Jojoba Facial Lotion

Oooh, a new facial moisturiser to test out. I'm about to head off on a holiday (when this post goes live I'll be on holiday) so will have to test this out when I get back to New Zealand. It looks quite nice!

Cuticle Balm - Lemon Zing

This stuff smells fantastic. It appears to be an oil based balm, and the lemon scent is phenomenal. I'm terrible at taking care of my nails/cuticles, so I'm making this part of a friend's birthday present.

Body Butter - Citrus Dream

I love the size of these tubs. Perfect for travel! I'm not a huge fan of the body butter, it's a bit rich for my skin. The scent is really delicious! I love citrus scents, and this is a lovely lemony scent, with a hint of orange?

Lip Balm - Key Lime Pie

These wee pots are so cute. I'm more of a 'lip balm in a tube' type girl, but these are really neat. They remind me of lip balm from the '90s when I was a kid. The scent is so sweet and fresh.

Some of the citrus scents in this box are fantastic! I'm most excited about the Shower Whip (of course) and I can't wait for Butterfly Party Soap to reopen in 2016.

Fandom of the Month September 2015

I've got a brand new subscription box to show you lovely readers today. It's called 'Fandom of the Month' and they do little fan type goodies (jewellery, art pieces, random other things) with a different fandom each month. I originally discovered it on one of my favourite blogs - From L and P to English Tea.

Fandom of the Month is $13 per month, plus shipping. Shipping costs vary but to New Zealand it costs $9.80. Previously there have been Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings (drool, wish I had gotten that one), Harry Potter, Star Wars, and more. I'm excited to see what is in the box for September!

This month the Fandom is Percy Jackson! It's been a long time since I read those books, but the earrings tipped me off.

Some wings for your shoes! These are neat, but not my style. They are perfect for my younger sister though - included with the book as a Christmas present and voila!

The magnet I assume has a reference to the series, but I don't remember anything in particular. It looks cool though, and will be great for the top of my deep freeze.

The bag is a cute drawstring, and the jewellery was all inside it in the box. I love the quote, and do remember that being a theme of the books when I read them.

The jewellery is well chosen. I love the necklace and ring (close-ups below), and the earrings are very cute too. I'll wear all of these pieces so I'm very happy to have them.

The earrings have a pegasus in the centre, and say 'Camp Half Blood' around the outside.

The Pegasus necklace is made of reflective metal, and is a great length. 

I really like this box. There are a couple of things I won't use, and this isn't a fandom I'm intimately familiar with, but I can appreciate the curation of this box. I am in love with most of the jewellery, and will be able to gift the bits that don't resonate with me. 

It's a great box at a great price, although it's more expensive to get it shipped to this side of the world.

Beauty Review Beauty Box - September 2015

The Beauty Review Beauty Box is finally back! There was supposed to be one in June but that never seemed to appear, so it's with a glad heart (and plenty of adrenaline) that I bought this September version! I've unboxed the December 2014 box, and the March box on my blog previously, so check those out if you want a full history of this box!

The BRBB box is available for members only (so sign up here if you want to get the next one), and is filled with at least 6 full size products. It costs $50 plus postage, and claims to have current products that are readily available in New Zealand.

I love how the boxes, tissue paper, and card are all fantastically designed. This box has beautiful spring colours!

 The ever useful card. I love the way Beauty Review includes all the information about products, the prices, and differentiate between full size products (the majority of the box) and bonus samples.

 Goodness Every Morning Moisturiser

I've been on the lookout for a morning/day moisturiser and have received three in the last few boxes I've gotten. Whew, I'm sorted for awhile now! That being said, I've been dying to try Goodness, so I'm excited to try this one out and give it a go. I'm a bit disappointed that the day cream included doesn't have SPF (especially going into summer) but it's a minor thing.

Trilogy Make-up Be Gone Cleansing Balm

This is another brand new product on the market, which is a neat addition to the box. I don't wear makeup usually, but I can use this as a plain old cleanser. I love the addition of a cloth, as it's always nice to have more of those for removing extra traces of cleanser. I'm not overly happy to have this, but I will definitely use it.

Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner

Eh. I've already tried these samples before, and they are nice products but I'm not happy to see them in the box. The very first BRBB box had full size shampoo and conditioner in it, and I've been hoping for more ever since. Sigh, maybe next time.

Schwarzkopf Blonde Anti-Yellow Refresher Mousse

I honestly think this is a weird product to have in the box. It says it's for all hair colours, but it's a dud product for people who aren't interested in dying their hair or making their hair lighter at all. I think this was a bad idea to include it, although it is a good product for a handful of people. I will use mine, more for novelty and so it isn't wasted, but I'm not happy with this one.

Schwarzkopf Styliste Sea Salt Texture Spray

Salt sprays are all the rage right now, so this is on point. I don't style my hair that often, but I'm thinking about cutting it in the next few months so I'll have to try styling my hair after that. This is a nice size to test out too.

Batiste Dry Shampoo - Tropical

I've been keen to try a dry shampoo for awhile, and this is the perfect opportunity. This is supposed to 'spray in, brush out' and I am in love with the scent! This does seem to work, it makes my roots look less greasy, so I'm going to have a bit more of a play with it. It's neat to have it in the box though!

Schwarzkopf Styiste Ultime Amino Q Hairspray

This is the perfect hair spray size, especially for travel. As I said above, I don't usually do my hair, but on occasions that I do this is a great size to have around.

Moisture Mist Dual Control Liquid Foundation - Ivory

Wow, I wasn't expecting a foundation. It's a risky item in a box because of colour matching intricacies, but I can see a lot of people appreciating this. Personally it's a flop for me, as I don't wear makeup on a daily basis (or ever really) but I do see the value to others. I like that it has SPF in it, and I suppose if you're using this in combination with the day cream then you will have some SPF protection in summer.

Cameo Angled Blusher & Contouring Brush

This looks like a really nice brush. I have no idea how to blush or contour (repeat ad nauseum the 'I don't wear makeup' litany), but once again I can see this being great for many people.

Right, this one I'm going to rant about. Do I have a problem with something included in the box I won't ever use? Not really - it is lucky dip. Do I have a problem with having basically the same product in the March box, and this box? Yes! Come on Beauty Review, don't be doing that shady stuff and repeating products - changing the colour/formula doesn't count, it's still an eyeliner by the same company.

Maybellline New York Colour Sensation Lipstick

Well this is browner than I had envisioned. I love dark browns, but I've not really tried a nude one before. I'm happy to give it a go, and the formula is divine! It's non-drying and truly leaves my lips soft. I'm happy with this one!

That breaks it down a little more, and makes it more obvious whether or not the box was worth it for me personally. I think it was, as I paid just over $50 for it, and I've certainly received that much.

I do think the curation is a bit lopsided this time. I would have loved to have seen full size shampoo/conditioner or a hair treatment (rather than mainly styling products), and I would have loved for something for the body to be in there ( a lotion, body butter, scrub, or shower gel type product). There was a great selection of makeup - which was not right for me but I imagine it being great for makeup girls. There are also some wicked skincare goodies which I am truly grateful to have from the box!

The curation aside, I think this box overall is the best currently in New Zealand. It's not my favourite, but it's leaps and bounds ahead of any other New Zealand based box. It has full sized products, a varied mix of products, samples that aren't stupid foil packets, and comes out quarterly (which makes for much better curation).

The Monthly Book Wrangle - September 2015

It's time for another round-up of what I've been reading this month. I've been trying to be quite diverse in my book choices, although the majority of September was fantasy (my favourite genre). I've also been starting to use the public library more (it's a 5 minute walk from my work), which has been great. I have 3 books on the hold shelf there right now, so expect a bigger round-up in October!

Onwards, to the books!

The Pyre - David Hair*

This book is written by a Kiwi (New Zealander for my international readers) who lived in India for 3 years, and has written a fantasy quartet that explores Indian mythology and religious traditions in a modern context. The Pyre (a re-released version of Pyre of Queens), is the first book, and a wonderful introduction to Indian religion, cultural beliefs, and the modern impact of these. I knew next to nothing about Indian religion - apart from the references to it in A Little Princess - and loved finding out more.

I won't say too much, but the basic plot involves a sorcerer-king/demon-lord from the 700s, who is reborn in modern-day India along with a cast of teenage characters who oppose his evil plans. The book explores complex mythologies, the Ramayana, various implications about the interactions of different religious beliefs, and, of course, love. It's action-packed, switches between modern-day and various historical periods, and so gripping I couldn't put it down (and read all the sequels very quickly as they were fantastic too). This is the second time I've read this book this year, and highly-recommend this series!

The Paper Magician - Charlie N. Holmberg

I came across this in a list of 'Must-Read YA Fantasy' or something similar, and promptly requested it from the library. It's a small book, which makes it easy to read - something that appeals to most people these days. Ceony Twill is sent as an apprentice to learn the magic of Folding (Paper) from Magician Emery Thane, despite her desire to become a smelting magician. Of course it's not all smooth sailing when villains invade Thane's home and Ceony is forced to use her meagre training to save the day. Honestly, this book was good, but not great. I ended up skipping parts of it because I thought some of the text was unnecessary.

*Spoiler alert* One of the things that was most annoying to me was that she fell in love with him after only a few days, although I did like that he didn't make any real commitments to her at the end - gotta have something for the sequels. What was good was the storytelling that was used to discover more about Emery Thane's past, which I quite liked, and the way his past was explored was quite well done. I'm planning on reading the sequels, more to see what happens than out of a real desire to further immerse myself in these books though. Overall rating of 'meh', but with gems of promise.

Looking for Alaska - John Green

This one was a book-club read for the month, and something I 'borrowed' off my sister-in-law about this time last year. Whoops! At least she can have it back now. I had read a little by John Green before, and cried just about the whole way through so I knew this book would be an emotional ride. It was an easy to read book, but dealt with some deep topics in a realistic and caring way. It is set at a boarding school, where the main character Miles deals with friendships, rivalries, and first love. The characters are rather gritty, with all kinds of problems, and this is a coming-of-age type story where the characters realise that life isn't always easy, and consequences to decisions are not always easy to accept. I really enjoyed this  book, despite it not being the happiest. John Green has a real knack for making relatable characters, whose plight will pull at your heart-strings, and kick-start your tear ducts.

The Hiding Places - Catherine Robertson

The token 'literary' novel in this months wrangle, and a very enjoyable one. It's a romance/mystery that involves historical events, a mysterious old house, repercussions of the death of a loved one, and explores the way that lives are shaped over decades. A New Zealander inherits an old house (think Downton Abbey size) in the UK, and reluctantly moves over to restore and sell it. This novel explores relationships (romantic, friendships, acquaintances), discusses punishment/blame for past actions (often ones that were out of individual control), moving forward in life despite it not going as planned, and draws the reader into the story. It's not the easiest book to read, and everything appears to have multiple meanings, but it is a very enjoyable story. It's thought-provoking and explores themes of love, death, adoption, and family roots.

Aurora - Kim Stanley Robinson*

I'm honestly not sure what to say about this book. I haven't finished it, and I don't think I am interested in finishing it. I've been trying for the last month, but it is very hard going. It's set on a spaceship (which includes flora, fauna, and climates from the four corners of Earth) and they are travelling to find a new planet to live on. There have been several generations since leaving Earth, and their destination is fast approaching. There is a creation of an unusual culture within the ship which is interesting to explore and understand, and the characters and their relationships with each other are well written. My issue is that the science dominates everything else. I know this is hard science fiction, but I couldn't make it through all the intricate science - partially because I don't want to, partially because you need a PhD in astrophysics to understand some of the terminology. I'm not going to say it was awful, because the parts that weren't science-based I really enjoyed, but be aware that this book requires more concentration (and possibly some research) to get through it.

Empties September 2015

Phew, another month over with; another post to write up about the things I've used up. I tried specifically to use up some of my body lotion samples this month, mainly since I need some extra room in that particular drawer. It's been quite fun using lots of things up, so let's get into it!

It looks like a lot when you put them all together, but I'll try and not waffle too much.

Butterfly Party Soap Bath Whip - Mrs Claus' Cookies

I am in love with the bath whip! It's so soft, is fun to use in the shower, and foams/lathers really well. The scent lasts for ages after getting out of the shower which is good too. This particular scent was very sweet, and not really my thing, but I am delighted by the product itself!


Repurchase: Yes, by the tonne, when this company reopens next year.

Butterfly Party Soap Foamy Scrub - Elf Sweat and Vanilla Bean Noel

Once again, I've fallen in love with this product. These tiny sample containers had enough for one good scrub of my entire body, which was a neat way to try different scents out. The scrub particles are sugar (I think), and are great for actually scrubbing away dead skin. I hate tiny particles when I'm scrubbing my whole body, and this one lathers too. It means you don't have to use a body wash as well. I used one as a shaving cream, and it worked well. I could scrub my legs, and then lather and shave, all with the one product. In regards to scent, I loved Elf Sweat (a sharp mint/pine flavour?) but wasn't too keen on the Vanilla Bean Noel.


Repurchase: Yes, by the tonne, and then another tonne.

Schwarzkopf Rescue Repair Shampoo

I think this is from one of the last Goodieboxes I received in 2014. I've had a massive backlog of shampoos, and been trying to use them all up so I can buy the ones I want to be using. This was a nice enough shampoo, nothing too special for me, but I liked it. It did the job and didn't strip my hair. I'm pretty sure it's rather expensive so that means I won't be buying again.

Repurchase: No.

Tosowoong 10 Hours

I have one of these in just about every empties post. By now I'm just considering not including it since it appears every month. I love this product, it makes my hair soft, shiny, and gives it life. Love love love.

Repurchase: I still have a few tubes left, but I will be once I need to.

Mise en Scene Perfect Repair

I used a bottle of this up in July too, and I'm happy it's gone. The product itself wasn't too bad - it conditioned, left hair soft and shiny, left it hydrated - but the scent was terrible. I used it because of the effects, but I couldn't deal with the scent.

Repurchase: No.

Glamourflage Amazing Grace Massage Lotion

I think this was supposed to be for massages, but I just used it like a normal lotion. It was thin, smelled strongly of frangipani, and worked a treat! It was nice to try out, but I've preferred other lotions so won't be getting another one.


Repurchase: No.

Etude House My Castle Hand Cream - Rose

I've been working on this one for months! It sat beside my bed, and I used it all the time but hand cream just seems to take forever to work through for me. This was a thick pink cream, and you scoop it out from inside the castle (the roof comes off). It's a bit greasy to start with, but once it sinks in it's a lovely moisturiser.


Repurchase: No, but I have about 20 hand creams lined up.

EO Hand Sanitizer - Lavender

I got this in my very first Flora and Fauna box, and I'm so glad I did. I've had it at work on my desk, and it's been handy to have it close by. It's so handy having a spray, although it does take some getting used to. I'm going to miss this bottle at work.


Repurchase: Yes!

Butterfly Party Soap Body Butter Coconut Dream

This was a thick cream, and it left my legs really soft and smooth. It did leave a bit of a greasy after-feeling, but it wasn't too bad. The coconut scent was alright, it wasn't my favourite though as it wasn't very strong or sweet (I'm a sucker for sweet scents).

Repurchase: No, I've got a couple more tubs to go through.

Coconut Revolution

This is a thick cream that leaves a bit of a greasy afterfeel. It does sink in eventually, and left my legs soft for hours! This tiny bottle let me moisturise my legs 2.5 times, or 5 legs worth. It smells lovely, like a sweet, vanilla coconut. I really like it.

Repurchase: Yes, if I can find a full size.

EcoStore Nourishing Body Lotion

I didn't really like this one. It has a natural scent, well, truly not much of a scent - so it's probably good for sensitive skin. It did the job, but I didn't like the scent or the feel of the lotion itself.

Repurchase: no.

Soak Skin Booster Body Lotion

I loved this one! It was a thin lotion, and it sunk in very very quickly! It reminded me of The Body Shop puree I used up last month. It smelled great and I can't wait to try and get my hands on some more. I'm planning on going on a search while I'm in Australia in a couple of weeks.

Repurchase: Heck yes!! 

Skinfood Premium Tomato Whitening Toner

I liked this toner. I know a lot of people are skeptical about how much a toner really does, but I like to have that step. This one didn't do a lot of whitening (no it didn't bleach my skin at all), but I did notice a more even skintone. It didn't break me out, and the scent was lovely too. It lasted a couple of months, so it gives good value too. It came in a Memebox in 2014, and is one I might consider buying again. 

Repurchase: Possibly, to be decided after I work through my backlog of toner. 

AHC Hologram Collection Moisture Serum

This smelled like apples. Straight up. It was quite a nice moisturiser; it kept my skin hydrated, didn't cause outbreaks of pimples, and basically did what it was supposed to. The price is something crazy like $89USD. Holy heck, it was fine, but not that blinking fine. 

Repurchase: No, the price is waaaay too high. 

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes

I think these were from a Goodiebox, and they were nice. I kept them at work for days when I felt extra oily or gross, so I didn't use them on a regular basis. The wipe is soft, it gets the grime off your face, and the scent is lovely and fresh. I liked these, and would probably buy them again.

Repurchase: Sure, if they are on sale while I'm looking to buy. 

There we have it, another month of empties. I'm surprised at how many sample lotions I managed to get through, and might continue to attempt specifically to use up more lotions. I'm purely doing this as I'm running out of room in that drawer, and want to buy some more body butters (although I probably shouldn't).
